Google to invest in Andhra village

Google India has partnered with Andhra Pradesh State FiberNet Limited (APSFL) to set up Wi-Fi stations in all the Gram Panchayats of the state. The announcement was made on Friday and while the details of the full project are scarce right now, it is expected that Google will follow a similar model for it that it used in the Indian Rail Wi-Fi project. This means the connectivity and bandwidth will come from APSFL whereas the way hotspots will work will be something that Google will prepare.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday said that Google and his government will install 25000 hotspots in Andhra villages by the end of 2018. Overall, the project is supposed to cover all Gram Panchayats in the state.

Google’s Plan

Google calls the project Google Station and it has gradually expanded the ambit of the whole idea. Now it not only covers the train stations but also other places. Google Station is a Google service that let its partners roll out Wi-Fi hotspots in public places for better network connectivity. Alongside railway stations, Google is also planning to offer high-speed public Wi-Fi through Google Station in Indian smart cities.Google, in partnership with Larsen & Toubro, recently announced the installation of 150 Google Station hotspots in Pune.
